Workshops & Mentoring

As a mentor, dramaturg and workshop leader, I’m interested in acknowledging the confidence it takes to grow your practice, finding ways to take care of yourself on your journey, and making sure to celebrate your wins along the way.
I am a trauma-informed practitioner with NSPCC Safeguarding training and a current DBS Certificate. I have experience working with vulnerable and marginalised groups, and have worked with a wide number of organisations including Synergy Theatre Project, Bristol Drugs Project, Beyond Face, and Arvon Foundation.
Artists I’ve mentored have gone on to create brilliant work, build confidence in themselves and forge arts-based careers. I’m really proud to have been part of their journeys and appreciate all they’ve taught me. I have also worked as a dramaturg on a variety of different kinds of live shows, including plays, interactive art, musicals and cabaret.
As an artist myself, I understand how vulnerable it can be to let someone into your process. I work respectfully with artists to establish their boundaries and help them to find renewed joy and excitement in their projects and practice.

Workshops
-
My workshops are fun, interactive and supportive creative sessions, customised for each group with a focus on writing and nurturing the full creative self.
Whether a one-off session or full workshop series, for practicing artists or complete beginners, we’ll work together to build skills and generate material.

Mentoring
-
Being a maker can be a difficult business! It’s very easy to get stuck in a rut, or overwhelmed by the different directions you could go in. Imposter syndrome can strike and paralyse us, or the constant grind can be disheartening and make us feel like giving up.
Times like these, it’s nice to have an artistic mentor. Someone who is on your side to help give you perspective on where you’re at, what you’ve achieved, and to help you form a plan for where you want to go.
I have over ten years of experience working in the creative industries and have held many different roles. As your mentor, I’ll use this expertise to bust jargon, clarify processes and help you to navigate your way in this often challenging but incredibly vital arts world.
I’m especially interested in supporting artists who are at a transitional point in their careers. Are you a poet or musician looking to create more long-form work? Or an actor hoping to write your own show after years of performing other people’s words? I might be your gal.
-
I offer all artists interested in working with me an initial complimentary 30-minute session.
Here we can discuss your practice, ideas and how you like to work so we can get an idea of whether we feel that we are the right fit for each other.
If we choose to work together, I offer a sliding scale rate per session. This is dependent on a few different factors, e.g. budget, prep time, and travel if in-person time is required.
Drop me an email if you’d like more information and a breakdown of my sliding scale rates.
Dramaturgy
-
Dramaturgy is described in the Oxford dictionary as “the theory and practice of dramatic composition”. In less lofty terms, I’d say it is the art of shaping your story. Dramaturgy ensures your work flows well, communicates what you want it to and connects with your audience.
As a dramaturg, I love collaborating with artists to help them interrogate their stories, characters, form and themes. My approach is led by curiosity and kindness, with a strong desire to help you tell your story in the best way possible.
As an interdisciplinary artist, I understand that not all work fits into conventional models of storytelling or playwrighting. I am excited to work with artists who are breaking the boundaries of genre.
