Jakabol

I’ve been working with my good friends Jakabol since 2018. Together, we create spoken-word-music fusions that defy genre. I’m not saying that to be big-headed, it really is difficult to define what it is we do. Gigs, theatre shows, storytelling, folk, prog rock, psychedelia, animation, poetry. It’s all up for grabs, and at the core of it all is a deep love of collaboration and exploring the ways we can feel and connect through musical storytelling.

I always feel very honoured to be able to work with such a generous, kind and talented group of people.

OUTLIER

★ ★ ★ ★
"Jakabol’s folk-prog workouts pick up on Kegode’s themes and amplify them, the line between speech and music seamless and organic."
Mark Fisher, The Guardian

The powerful poetics of Malaika Kegode and exhilarating music of Bristol band Jakabol combine with dynamic animation in this moving, autobiographical gig-theatre show directed by Jenny Davies.

Genre-defying and hopeful, Outlier explores the impact of isolation, addiction, and friendship on young people coming of age in the often-forgotten places.
